Do ya'll carry way more than you'll probably ever need when ya go to the woods? This is usually what's in my backpack when I leave the house.
extra ammo (gun hunt) spare release (archery hunt) compass spare bino's (yes, I've destroyed a pair before) pair of flashlights (in addition to the catseye on my cap) extra batteries 2 Bic lighters waterproof matches multi-blade Kersaw knife small first-aid kit including survival blanket spare cell-phone battery water (6 - 20 oz. bottles) sandwich or two candy bars (nutri-bars or something of the like) light weight rain-suit Toilet paper
That's in addition to the knife in my pocket, bino's strapped on my chest and rangefinder and GPS on my sides. This may sound a bit like overkill but if you've never been lost it's not a good feeling. And when people tell me "Ah, I just hunt here at the house" I tell'em strange things can happen. I got lost on property I was raised on and had hunted my entire life, but slip and fall can make things look a whole lot different.
